There used to be a driver for PC/SC that supported this card reader: pcsc-lite-cm2020, however, it seems to be gone now. I've downloaded the source package from the manufacturer. It is very old. pcsc_scan - will show you smartcard reader and its status. It should show your identity card inserted, as well as when you take it out. If it displays waiting on reader - restart the pcscd service and try again.

It is a resource manager that coordinates communications with smart card readers and smart cards and cryptographic tokens that are connected to the system. pcscd is normally started at boot time from /etc/init.d/pcscd. Try running pcsc_scan to check whether pcscd can communicate with the reader and the card (some readers only accept EMV cards for odd reasons). You also need a driver for the smart card itself.
