In this tutorial I will explain how to connect an USB RFID reader to your Raspberry Pi and retrieve the tag ID in a well parsed format by using Node-Red
I want to be able to read RFID tags that run at 125 kHz using the raspberry pi. I found the following hardware online and I was wondering if I bought two of these, how would the raspberry pi exactly be continuously monitoring both readers from the USB ports and if this was easy to do for a beginner? I bought a 125 kHz USB RFID Contactless Proximity Sensor Smart ID Card Reader EM4100 which comes with a USB interface, but absolutely no documentation (that I could find) although every second vendor on eBay seems to sell them. Re: RFID card readers for Pi 4. Wed Aug 25, 2021 12:14 pm. USB + USB extenders over CAT5/6 ethernet cable could in theory give you the range you are looking for. Desfire cards are NFC/ISO14443 cards so then you need that kind of reader, and will have to discard any 125KHz reader.Turn your Raspberry Pi into an intelligent data collector using the 125KHz RFID Reader. Installed without any additional drivers, the RFID Reader uses existing facilities (UART and one of four GPIOS pins, user selectable) on the Raspberry Pi to link to a RFID module and detect the presence of RFID tags. This repository offers example software .
