I just checked one of our 2017 MBPro non-Touchbar laptops and Disk Utility showed "SMART Status: Not Supported", so this appears to be normal for this particular laptop. It is unfortunate that Apple doesn't properly support SMART on this laptop/SSD. Do any mainstream manufacturers incorporate Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) into their USB flash drives (aka "USB sticks") or SD cards? If not, why not? It can't be.
